Scholarships & Volunteering

Professional Scholarships Program:

Museums and the Web recognizes that many individuals who make significant contributions to digital practice would be unable to attend MW without some financial assistance. New and innovative accomplishments in technology for culture and heritage come from all kinds of organizations throughout the world. Competitive scholarships covering full conference registration and a full day of workshops will be awarded to selected applicants. In special cases, some support will also be offered for travel and lodging costs. (Museums and the Web does not provide transportation between the airport and the conference hotel. Lodging does not include the food and room service.)

To be eligible, you must have made a significant contribution to the development of a cultural or heritage website or digital initiative, and must demonstrate that you would not be able to attend the meeting without support. You must prove you are a current employee of a cultural institution (including educational institutions, libraries, archives, etc.). As a scholarship awardee, you may be asked to give a small presentation on your work during the conference. Recommendations/references must be sent along with the application.

Scholarships are sponsored by companies active in Museums and the Web and the application is posted here. The deadline for submission is December 23, 2016. The review committee will review and select the awardees by December 27, 2016.

Conference Volunteer Program:

Responsibilities: Over the course of the conference, we are relying on you to perform a variety of duties that are crucial to the success of the conference. These tasks are:
  • staffing the registration desk during the conference;
  • greeting and helping attendees;
  • greeting at the receptions;
  • preparing the delegates’ packs;
  • coordinate and accompany the tours;
  • assist presenters with AV needs;
  • collecting surveys;
  • other duties as required.

Overall a volunteer dedicates about 25 hours during the 5 days of the conference.

Benefits: The full registration cost for the conference will be waived; volunteers must, however, pay for any pre-conference workshops they wish to attend. Travel (hotel, expenses and flight costs) is not included. All social event tickets are included.

The application deadline is December 23, 2016.  The application is posted here. For more information about volunteering or applying, please contact Hiroko Kusano.
