Bluecadet was enlisted by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY for an ambitious overhaul and redesign of their institutional website. The new site launched as the museum embarked on a major expansion project, dubbed “AK360,” which seeks to raise $125 million, making it the largest capital campaign for a cultural institution in the history of Western New York. Bluecadet was presented with the unique challenge of creating an online presence that offers visitors the same visual vibrancy online as they experience on the physical campus.
The website details the history and ambitions of this unique institution, and a robust interactive timeline walks visitors through the museum’s campus from its earliest days through the recent AK360 expansion.
Bluecadet worked with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery to fundamentally reimagine how they would connect with visitors across their digital platforms. Central to this strategy was research into a unique taxonomy of content, helping the gallery better organize and deliver content across devices to a range of users and visitors.
An enhanced “Search the Collection” feature, built on Piction and Mimsy, allows online visitors to browse the museum’s collection and learn more about artists and individual pieces, including masterworks by Kahlo, Warhol, and Gauguin. Bluecadet’s redesign hopes to support the museum’s aim of making the more than 7,000 works of art more accessible to visitors around the world.
This storytelling served both to build momentum for the capital campaign and deliver a compelling brand and educational experience during the organization’s campus expansion.
