GLAMi nomination: Digital Wayfinding Experience
institution: Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
category: Museum-Wide Guide or Program
None (will be available online later this spring)
The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco’s Digital Wayfinding Experience enables visitors to locate a point-of-interest (POIs) or amenity on 3D map of the museum. POIs include exhibitions, collection galleries, masterpieces and public spaces while amenities include restrooms, elevators, stairs and coat check. Each POI includes a description and turn-by-turn directions; both accessible (directing visitors to the nearest elevators) and fastest routes are included. To ensure accessibility for our audiences, the Digital Wayfinding Experience features four languages — English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese — as well as text sizing and high-contrast design. The Digital Wayfinding Experience is currently available onsite via a touchscreen kiosk. With thousands of visitors using it each month the Wayfinding kiosk maintains 10-20% uptake of all museum visitors.
