Driving to Digital through Rapid Piloting – A template from the Ontario Science Centre
Sabrina Greupner, Ontario Science Centre, Canada, Kevin von Appen, Ontario Science Centre, Canada
In the drive to digital, how do the hard decisions get made? Wayfinding apps? Multiplayer AR/VR games? Layered digital content? Digital publications? With limited budgets, time and resources, implementing digital initiatives in a museum environment can be risky business. One option is to engage in rapid experience piloting—a process of medium scale, time- and scope-limited testing of key experience elements that provides valuable data prior committing to larger projects. In this Lightning Talk, staff from the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, Canada will discuss their recent year-long use of rapid piloting to inform elements of a developing digital strategy, including an exploration of the key role of partnerships – whether private/public sector, other science centres, universities and colleges (using a curriculum co-development model), or corporate sponsorship.
