Getting your museum into the 3D and VR realm

How-to Session
Daniel Pett, The British Museum, UK, Jennifer Wexler, British Museum , UK

This session will demonstrate the ease with which museums can start their journey into 3D and Virtual Reality, whilst working on a budget. It will draw on the experience of staff and contractors who work for the British Museum to display the methods and software used to allow for dissemination via the innovative Sketchfab platform. Through this how-to, you will be shown how to capture the necessary images, how to manipulate them in a software package and create a 3D model and how to upload and disseminate the results via Sketchfab. We will also demonstrate how we have made the models work in a variety of environments – on social media, within collections management records and within the WebVR platform that Sketchfab provides.
